The Watchet Singers are a mixed voice choir - sopranos, altos, tenors and bass. We have spaces in the choir for all voices.
Whether you sing in the shower or are a trained singer, why not come and see how we work in a friendly and welcoming environment.
We sing a variety of musical genres from all eras - contemporary and classical.
If you don't read music - no problem! Singing along with those that can read music builds your confidence. However, enthusiasm and commitment are just as important.
The benefits of singing in a choir are many! Singing is an excellent stress reliever, can help lift depression, improves your memory and sharpens your concentration.
You meet new people and make new friends and singing is fun!
Why not come along to our rehearsal on September 5th at 7.30 pm. No auditions, just come and enjoy singing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere!
The Watchet Singers rehearse in two sessions - January to April and September to December. Each session costs £15.00 and all sheet music is provided. We meet on Thursday evenings, 7.30 - 9.00 pm in the Watchet Methodist Church school rooms.
We perform two concerts, a Spring concert and a Christmas concert. Profits from each concert goes to local charities chosen by choir members.
In December, we join with members of the public on the Methodist Church steps to sing carols and get into the Christmas spirit!
No expensive outfits are required - ladies wear a black skirt or trousers and a black blouse with a blue T shirt underneath. Gentlemen wear black trousers and a black shirt with a blue T shirt underneath.
This spring, the concert performance will be sea related and will feature sea shanties and similar water related songs. In keeping with this theme, profits raised from the retiring collection will be donated to Watchet Sea Scouts
In the past, our choir's name was "The Watchet and District Choral Society"
Founded in the 1960s it performed in and around Watchet, Williton and Minehead, celebrating local events and fund raising for local charities.
In 2023, the choir members were concerned that the name may be a little old fashioned and be off putting to some people. It was decided to change the name to "The Watchet Singers" - a friendlier and more inclusive name.
